This website is published by The Rights Practice. It is intended to be a resource for the many scholars, officials, lawyers and NGOs in China that are working to reform the criminal justice system. It is hoped that visitors to this site will gain a greater understanding of how other countries have tried to resolve the tensions inherent in the criminal justice system, between the responsibilities of governments to ensure public safety with the obligation to respect human rights. Many countries struggle with this and it can take many years of effort on the part of lawyers, scholars and other campaigners before new policies are adopted. We recognise the difficulties of searching unfamiliar websites in English and have therefore tried to bring together in a simple Chinese language format key resources on the web as well as material written by The Rights Practice and other experts for use in conferences, study visits and publications. As far as possible, the resources are in Chinese. Some specialist articles are in English only and there are also links to external websites in English; both are indicated. Please contact us if you would like to recommend materials or would like to volunteer to translate materials into Chinese.
